Appeal for Financial Support for Cameroonian Refugees in Nigeria.
Over the past two years since the beginning of 2016, Cameroon is going through a political crisis. This crisis stem from the non-respect of some constitutional provisions agreed on at reunification in 1961 between the then British Southern Cameroon and French Cameroon. The consequences of this crisis has been devastating and escalating daily in an increasing rate in the North West and South West regions commonly referred to as Anglophone Cameroon. As we write this appeal for support letter, there is presently a war going on in the two Anglophone regions of Cameroon by the Cameroon government and the military. People from Anglophone Cameroon are being indiscriminately arrested and killed. The Cameroon military has been carrying out on a daily basis, huge extrajudicial killings, looting, arson, maiming, raping, destruction of crops and natural resources against the Anglophone Cameroon. The arson has escalated such that entire villages and farm lands have been burned down and still being burned down by the Cameroon military.
The Cameroon military is currently carrying out a scorched-earth policy against the Anglophone Cameroon (Southern Cameroon) and hundreds of Anglophone Cameroonians are being incarcerated incommunicado every day without rights to their lawyers, doctors and family members and are being giving false trials and huge imprisonment terms which they do not deserve at all. As such, thousands of the denizens of Anglophone Cameroon, have been forced to flee to nearby bushes and neighboring Nigeria for their safety. The humanitarian situation is worsening by the day. The United Nation High Commission for refugees in Nigeria estimates that there are over 40000 Cameroonian refugees in Nigeria at the moment as a result of this crisis and the number keeps increasing day by day.
It is against this backdrop that we the sons and daughters of Manyu division from Southern Cameroon (Anglophone Cameroon) living in Montreal and under the umbrella of our association MECA Montreal, sadly torched by the inhuman condition of our people back home and in Nigeria, have decided to organize this fund raising event on June 23, 2018 to support these our brothers, sisters, parents, grandparents, pregnant women, children and youth etc. back home and in Nigeria who due to no fault of their own have been forced to flee their homes and villages to seek refuge in Nigeria in an unfavorable condition. Thus, your presence and kind donation will be greatly appreciated and will go a long way to bring light in the darkness of these dispersed and desperate people in urgent need of your help in any kind. As the Great Martin Luther King Jr. once said "life's most persistent and urgent question is, “what are you doing for others in need?”
Thank you for your kind support and generosity.

RECAP OF THE 2ND EDITION OF THE CAMEROON CULTURAL FESTIVAL
The Association Culturelle Manyu (MECA Montreal) organized the 2nd edition of the Cameroon Cultural festival from the 3rd - 5th of July 2015. This year was marked with a lot of innovations in its organization as it had as main guest of honor HRH the Fon of Fontem from the South West region of Cameroon. Unlike the timid first edition, the activities ran for three days with 6 different cultural associations that took part in the celebrations. MECA Montreal (organizers), LECDA Montreal, Momo Elites Canada-Montreal, Kupe Muaneguba Fraternity, WAIKOM and MEMFA, all being different cultural groups that trace their origins from Cameroon.
Delegates and invited guests from other cities in Canada, the USA, Europe and Cameroon started arriving Montreal on Friday July 3rd and were received at the Cameroonian restaurant Pili Pili in Lasalle at 6pm with a dinner in which we had a discussion on the run down of the rest of the activities. A cultural musical concert followed with a Cameroonian artist Missy BK between 8pm – 11pm after which the visitors had to retire for the day, in preparation for a very busy day on July 4th.
On 4th of July which was the main day of the cultural festival, the activities started as early as 8 am with a breakfast at Pili Pili restaurant LaSalle after which the different delegations drove to the festival venue at Park Lefebvre, 8600 Rue Hardy, LaSalle QC to set up equipment and install all the different artifacts to be displayed.
The event started at noon with the arrival of the different associations and delegates to the festival venue including their different traditional dishes to be served to the public. 1pm was the arrival of the representative from the LaSalle Borough as well as the guest of Honor HRM the Fon of Fontem from the Southwest region of Cameroon. The masters of ceremony presented the different groups as well as a word of welcome by the organizing committee, closely followed by a speech from the representative of the LaSalle Borough.
The ceremony which had an estimate 350 spectators kicked off with a parade in Cameroon traditional regalia by the different groups, then followed by a fashion parade by the kids which was punctuated by a word of welcome using different Cameroonian languages. An open Cameroonian tradition buffet was announced in which spectators had the opportunity to move around the different stands and taste the different Cameroonian cousins made available.
This led us to the high point of the day which was the presentation of different cultural dances in which the spectators were thrilled with wonderful Cultural dances from Cameroon. Needless to say it was a spectacular tour of Cameroon’s rich culture at no financial cost.
The main guest of the day, HRM the Fon of Fontem, then served a word of encouragement to the public and thank the organizers for such a brilliant idea that brings together citizens of Montreal and other cities to get a glimpse of Montreal’s rich ethnic diversity. This was followed by a closing remark by the President Mr. Fonderson Ashu who thank all the visitors and spectators of this event. He apologies for a few lapses and promise the public that they should be expecting a bigger event come 2016 as the festival keeps growing in both popularity and organization every year.
Finally, on the last day 5th of July the delegates met for a fair-ware lunch at 1.30 pm - 3.30pm at the Pili Restaurant where we had appraisals and handing of certificate of participation to the different groups that participated in the event.

Get this Quiz right and win a free ticket to the MECA Party on April 27th 2013
Two weeks ago, Mr Mbah of Mbengwi passed away in his sleep. Mr Mbah had three sons and his will stipulates that his 17 cows be divided as follows: one-half to the oldest son, Nji; one-third to the middle son, Ndifor; and one-ninth to the youngest, Ndikum. The boys have already recognized that 17 cows could not be divided as stipulated in their late father’s will. They have discussed the problem with older people in their village but no amicable solution has been obtained. An old lady has recommended they travel down to Barra village in Manyu Division to consult Pa Tambe, who is popular for brilliant logical thinking and excellent mastery of the English language, despite his advanced age.
Nji, Ndifor and Ndikum arrived Barah yesterday and after entertaining them to a sumptuous dinner of fufu and eru, with fresh palm wine accompanied by kola nuts, Pa Tambe, invited his guests to explain their problem. Nji spoke on behalf of his siblings, and explained their difficulty to The Wise Old Man of Barah. Pa Tambe listened carefully, was silent a long time, and then said, “You have travelled far and you need some rest now. I will have a solution for you in the morning.”
What do you think is the solution Pa Tambe will give the three brothers? Share this puzzle with friends. A free MECA Montreal 2013 party ticket is on offer for the right solution.
